1. They are wet.
2. In the Northern Hemisphere they move counter-clockwise.
3. In the Southern Hemisphere they move clockwise.
4. They are magnetically driven and temperately controlled.
5. They are generally sustained by low barometric pressure.
All you need now is the how and why.

They are both intense low pressure areas with strong winds. They are more or less circular in cross section. Both can cause destruction and loss of life. The energy that fuels both of them comes from the latent heat of vaporization of water.

Added notes to clear up misinformation in other answers: Tornadoes and hurricanes do not necessarily spin the same direction in the same hemisphere. Hurricanes' spin is controlled by the Coriolis force, while tornadoes' spin is not and can be either clockwise or counterclockwise in either hemisphere.

Neither is affected at all by magnetism.

Very high winds; low pressure in the centre; generally the direction of spin is consistent with the coriolis effect; they are destructive; neither requires an apostrophe to make the plural.
