Does taking Green Tea capsules work JUST AS WELL as drinking the tea? In other words, do you receive the same benefits with both?

It has the same benefits (little to none) and a major negative -- much more expensive.

Green tea has a few phytochemicals and some caffeine. It is not a miracle item. Have a cup or two of green tea daily if you like the taste but don't waste money on the capsules. For good health, eat 7-10 servings of fruit and vegetables daily; no amount of green tea or other capsules can come close for the benefits of eating fruit and veggies.

About 6 years ago, a research and development company that develops very high quality dietary supplements, set out to develop the best Antioxidant on the market. They have the machines to test the Antioxidant values in each product (called ORAC testing), and so they purchased ingredients known to be high in antioxidants to begin the development.

The first ingredient they tested was Green Tea, because we know is high in antioxidants and antioxidants protects our cells and is good for our health. They bought 100 bottles of it, tested it, and all the tests came back with ZERO antioxidant levels. At first they thought it was their machines, so they worked on them, and bought another lot... The same thing happened. So they recalibrated one more time, bought more Green Tea, and still ZERO antioxidant value was found.

So they called the company that produced the Green Tea. When they told them what had taken place, the company said, "OH! If we knew you were going to TEST it, we would have sent you the OTHER STUFF..."

What that means is best illustrated like this:

Let's say you take an apple and cut it in half. Place one half on the counter. Coat the other half with lemon juice and place it on the counter. In just a short while, the half of the apple that was not coated will begin to turn brown because the air is getting to it. Oxygen is in the air ... that is what Oxidates the apple (turning brown).

The half of the apple that is coated with the lemon juice is protected and does not turn brown. The antioxidant products on the shelves are not protected and the air oxidates them... thus you are not getting an active antioxidant product.

To answer your question, if you are purchasing over the counter Green Tea products in capsules or as tea, there is a very high likely hood that they do not contain the active antioxidant components.

After 4 years of research and development, this company found a way to "coat" the antioxidants so they stay active and
went on to produce a very high quality antioxidant.

email me if you would like more information on this antioxidant product that is active!!!!

I would not be so sure to jump on the boat that capsules are the way to go. They may be better in some ways like they may pack a high dose of higher antioxidants. However there may be a benifit to drinking it in tea, for instance in the Xian province they have the highest use of chemicals but the lowest stomach cancer rate in China, they also drink the most tea. Different form different use.. What do you want it for is the question I would ask.

Most green tea products do not have much or no antioxidant levels whatsoever after processing. Very few actually work.

In order to find the product that works, you must find one that has been tested through ORAC, Oxidative Radical Obsorbance Capacity to know what is absorbed in the cell for effectiveness and has GMP's Good Manufacturing Practices which are FDA guidelines for dietary supplements.

Haha, how ironic, i just gulped down the last of my lukewarm green tea and made a face as i refreshed yahoo answers and your question was the first thing i saw!! I think as bad as it tastes it's better than the capsules because u are also drinking lots of water at the same time, but i think that's the only reason. Every time u take a supplement have a glass of water and it should balance it out. Alternatively, Twinings do lots of Green teas with different flavours like pineapple
