Played Basketball in high school but had a strong leg from playing soccer as a kid, But I bought a tee/went up and started kicking field goals from about the 50 yard line. Granted there was a side wind, but should I try out for my college team, (North texas) or just finsh the finance degree and pursue business.
I mean can most people kick field goalds from 50?

Thanks guys, I will be honest and say i didn't hit all of them from the 50, but i figure without ever doing it with any regularity it's to be expected. But i will go for it, i'm a senior though so i dont know how that works, but i'm assuming if i were good enough and consistent* the key, i could try out for the pros and not have a great bio.

NO most can't kick from the 50. But using a tee is sort of cheating. Also, you need to take a field goal pursuit. What I mean is for kicking off, many kickers have put it through the uprights from the opposite 35!! that is 75 yards! But when you kick off, you get a running start and a tee. You need to practice kicking with about a 2-3 step approach, and not from a tee. Have a holder hold the ball down. Then if you can hit it from the 40 (50 yards) then you should try out.

I used to play soccer and me and my friend always kick field goals. We both have hit several times from the 45 yard line. It takes a bunch of tries but we have hit them. If you can hit from the 50, you seem like you can kick. Give it a shot. What do you have to lose.

No most people cant kick field goals from 50 yards. with or without the help of the wind.
go ahead and try out. who knows it may turn out good for you, and what the hell, you might actually be good at it. You will have alot of fun if you make the team.

Go for it!
If you can hit from 50 with any consistency, you'll be an asset to most any team.
BTW, good luck on the Finance degree.. who says you cant do both!
GO GREEN!

Its not the same kicking a field goal with a tee like a kick off. Have some one hold it for you and see how far you can kick it.

The longest ever NFL field goal was 63 yards. In college, the longest was 69 yards off a tee. There's simply no way you could kick a 100-yarder. It might be conceivable that you could kick a ball off a tee that would hit the ground 100 yards away, but that still would not be a 100-yard field goal due to the height of the crossbar. Not to mention, they don't use tees for field goals anymore.
