Because they started calling themselves that a long time ago. I would think that Green Bay would be a logical choice since they are owned by the public, not some private owner like Dallas or New England.

Think about this for a moment. The cowboy is by and far considered to be an American hero. Take the Viking for instance, thats Scandanavia, or the Giant, that is universally recognized. The cowboy though, yeah its pretty much American. After all, cowboys won the west. That being said, it is also easily proven that if you ask the rest of the world, who all are idiots and think that being pansies who chase a ball down the field and cant touch it call that **** football, they all know the Dallas Cowboys. Call it legendary coaching, playing, Super Bowl victories and apperances, or even the cheerleaders. Fact is they are the most recognized team in the NFL, and in the world. Let us also not forget that they hold the record for most consecutive winning seasons for any pro sports team at 23. That right there says they are the greatest of all time. Granted the Dolphins had the perfect season (which the last loss prior to that was to Dallas in the Super Bowl), the Pats are the current dynasty, and Green Bay was the big dog prior to the Super Bowl. So we haven't won a playoff game since we won Super Bowl XXX. Even the true champs don't always win (see Tennessee vs St Louis). If you watch any other NFL team play the Cowboys, you would think it is their Super Bowl. Love em or Hate em, it is your call but hey its the same way with America. You can love it or hate it, but in the end its why you can. And as for the Patriots being patriotic....screw that. Those guys are led by the kinda scumbag who didnt stick around with the mother of his own kid. Who wants that guy for their kid's role model. At least Michael Irvin admitted he wasn't a very good one. In the end, they have the class, the style, and the charm to do it more than any other team. Its not about just today or even tomorrow. It is about all things past present and future that make them America's Team.

The cowboys were called americas team long before the 90's. Might want to look into that. They would be like the yankees in baseball. Lots of people out of their area are fans. takes more then one year to make a team "americas team"

90s? try the 70s. That is when they got that nickname. It is more of a traditional nickname then an accurate one.
And the New England Patriots are the Yankees of Football. And the Red Sox are also the new Yankees. I think it is funny that Boston is become everything they hate about New York.

Oh just give it up, you ain't going to be able to take the title away from Cowboys. And why would Patriots be America's team, when they are the most hated, use more logical thinking.

There's no such thing as "America's Team"
There are 32 teams in the league. All of them represent cities in the USA. All of them have fans. No fan is better than any other fan. All 32 teams are "America's Teams"
I can't stand that term. I am an American....and my team is Denver. Not New England, not Dallas, not Green Bay.....Denver!

No NFL team would be "America's Team" if it were up to me. Not once has any NFL team represented the United States in international competition and no NFL team can claim a majority of Americans as its fans. Without one of those two qualifications, I can't see how any team could be "America's Team".
SOLAT - this might be one of the only times I will ever agree with a Bronco fan about anything.

By the number of fans that travel to away games and place a high number of opposing team fans in stadiums, as wells as, like a 50 year wait for season tickets at home......I'd have to say the Packers too.......
The 'America's Team' moniker was probably coined by a Cowboy fan in Dallas anyway.

They are considered "Americas Team" b/c there are so many ppl who love them and arent even close to Dallas or Texas in general. Ive been a Cowboys fan my entire life, and im from KY. Everywhere you go there are Cowboys fans SOMEWHERE except maybe in Washington and Philly.
New England cant be Americas Team b/c they are a team that ppl love to hate. I like them just b/c i hate the Colts, but ppl outside of Boston and that area typically dont like NE.
If there were a team that could even compare themselves with the Cowboys i would guess the Colts, but even then its stretching it. But they have more bandwagon fans than any team ive ever seen. No one cared about them 10 yrs ago and now everyone loves them? What a joke. But i guarantee if you go outside of the mideast you arent gonna find many Colts fans and you'll continue to find Cowboys fans EVERYWHERE.
