Which name do you prefer,

CATRIONA [ca-TREE-on-a]

or

CATALINA [kah-tah-LEE-nah]

They really aren't hard to pronouce, but the pronouciations are there for those who are ignorant. :)

If you're here just to say, I prefer Catherine or Katrina, or some other common variation, go on to the next one.

Thanks!

Catalina is so much prettier. Who cares if it's a salad dressing. It's gorgeous. Catriona.....no thanks.

Catalina IS a salad dressing, honest. It's also an Island and a swim suit company too.

And I have to admit I had to look up Catriona because I really didn't think it was a real name .

The meaning of the name Catriona is a form of Catherine

The origin of the name Catriona is Scottish.

So ... I prefer Catherine or Katrina ( Catherine is my name) Cate for a nickname

Catriona! ;)

And this is actually my favorite pronunciation, since the ka-TREE-na form would be too associated with the natural disaster (and ensuing governmental and financial scandals) for my liking. But the pronounced-O version sidesteps that nicely, and I've always quite liked it to begin with.

Catalina is a lovely form as well, but I've found many tend to associate it with the dressing (which would likely get a touch annoying). :)

Of course, these are obviously cultural choices, so that might affect my preference as well. Obviously, Catriona is the form I would use myself (see screen name LOL), but if you don't have Celtic heritage -- and especially if you DO have Spanish or Italian ties -- Catalina would make just as much, if not more, sense.

Catarina might also appeal, by the way. Similar sound and origin to Catalina, but without the pesky condiment reference. ;) Just a thought!

Catriona still gets my vote, though! Love it. ;)

I prefer Catalina. It sounds really nice. It's from the Greek word Catherine meaning Pure. Catriona is a very rare name. It is also another version of Catherine. Both are very beautiful names. It's really up to you but I am leaning towards Catalina.

Catriona sound like some sort of mythological Greek name. Its not bad but i don't know about naming a baby that. Catalina is nice my sister loves it. It is a little more common sounding than Catriona though so i guess it depends on what you are looking for in a name. Catriona is unique and Catalina is elegant and makes me think of exotic places like Catalina island

I like both. Catriona is different tho. Sounds really cool. Catalina, I've known or heard of a few people who've had that name. It's pretty though. But if you want something different, then use Catriona. If you want something more original, use Catalina.

I prefer Catalina because, for some odd reason, Catriona reminds me of a robot XD I can't quite reason out why...

Catalina (in my humble opinion) is a lovely name.

I like Catalina much better. It seems more feminine and even looks prettier to me (in a strange way). I love the nickname Cat too...although that can be used for both names. I have known a Catalina, and I liked her....makes the positive correlation stronger :)

Catalina (it is a salad dressing, like a spicy french, but most people wouldn't think of that. It is also an Island of the coast of California)
