A few days ago I went shopping and went to a fitting room to try on clothes. OMG...it was just disgusting. The place was FILTHY! Big ole dust bunnies and stray hair and mess everywhere. I complained to the management and they looked at me like I was from Mars or something. Is this something that can be reportable to a city or county health department? Seems to me the conditions I saw would be a public health hazard. What would you do in this situation?

i would call or write a letter to the main office of the store. let them know what you saw and how it disgusted you.you need to take pictures ans send those to them also. just let them know that you are a good customer but if they can not keep their dressing rooms clean you will be forced to shop else where. make it sounds like you are being ugly but more concerned for yours and others safety.

This is NOT reportable to a local health department.

Fitting rooms, as filthy as they may be, don't pose a real risk to your health and safety (unless the building is in severe disrepair and the fire exits are obstructed). Public health is more concerned when our food and blood are at risk: namely commercial food sources, tattoo/body modification parlors, hospitals and the like.

Since complaining to the management isn't helping, take your business to a store that cares about your opinion. And avoid holiday shopping altogether. You can save a ton of money if you give your gifts on New Year's or on the Feast of the Epiphany.
