Umm, gas prices have been high for over 3 years. Could it be that we're merely in a down cycle?

BTW, was the sub-prime mortgage mess also due to Iraq?

I'm far from a Bush supporter but what happening has to seen to a broader context.

For a start the big story is really the collapse of the derivatives markets which why the Central banks have been throwing billions to save commercial banks around the world .

This is effectively the end of the liberal economic dream of a unbridled market as the best mechanism for running an economy. It is to Capitalism what the Berlin wall getting broken down was for communism - It's that profound.

I do think Bush is responsible for a host of reasons, but I am not going to let congress get out of their crap either.

While Republicans have lost thier fiscal minds, the Democrats never had one to lose. Its interesting how different interests can be brought together across party lines to favor the same result...the destruction of our American nation.

No, the Bush supporters are brainwashed. And the supporters will blame us that jobs are being outsourced and going to other countries. The moronic Bush supporters (including my brother) thought and still thinks that it was the BEST idea to invade Iraq. Remember the old Bush (the father) was a war president and so is Bush now. Thank you.

The prices have historically risen...OPEC and a volatile world market combined with non exploration nationally, and arcaine fuel consumption rules for autos, joined hand in hand with our lack of concern for the prices being what they now are.(we still drive needlessly and buy accordingly)Given these and other facts I might expect a recession....But I will not join you in blaming someone for it...Al Gore could be in charge and it would still be happening...Wait till a Dem is in office and the prices still rise...That'll be your answer.

It is not quite as simple as you hope it would be. The price of gas is governed by a lot of factors. Not one alone causes prices to go up substantially.

If that's the case, how do you explain the fact that the price thereof didn't "skyrocket" until over two years later...when Katrina had destroyed a number of refineries?

You guys have been talking down the economy for seven years and it is still doing well. Give it up. We can afford the gas. It will have to rise to get alternatives anyway.

Were it that simple, think Greenspan's screw up's along with George's total incompetence.
