If players are using illegal drugs such as steroids, why is it not up to the local sheriff’s office and the DA in that district to investigate, arrest and prosecute them? Doesn’t the nation have more pressing business to attend to than trying to micro-manage a private enterprise?

Because baseball is one of the few business enterprises in the U.S. which has an exemption under the Sherman and Clayton Anti-Trust Acts, as well as exemptions under certain Federal labor laws like workers' safety and the like.
If it can be proven that the owners colluded in their ignoring the drugs issue in their industry, the Congress might want to remove their exemptions and make them hold to the same standards regarding drugs usage they have imposed on other industries like interstate trucking.

One would wonder...I think we have bigger issues to deal with myself....

Of course this country spent millions to regard President Clinton's BJ.

That is ok though...we have plenty of money...all of our schools, especially those in the inner cities are in tip top shape....all of our children are fed and get good medical care because our president cared enough to sign a bill...oh wait...no he didn't.

I think AIDS was cured a few weeks back, and hell, I only know 2 people dying of cancer as I type, so that is pretty much ok now.....

We have no national debt to pay off because or president is wise and doesn't throw money away on a pointless war.......

Everyone has a job and it isn't like people are losing their homes or anything.

Not as much bloodshed as Iraq. Not as scandolous prone as Congressmen in bathrooms. No pages were molested in the execution of the steroid usage. Corruption is at the center, but no special interest groups or lobbyists are idenitified as being involved...so the Congress is in the clear. And the democrat majority thinks there may be an angle here to attack Bush...as this occurred on his watch. Ron Paul is currently preparing a statement as well.

Major league baseball (and football, and basketball) soak up large amounts of government funding for stadiums and parking. If the owners are getting rich off of Player's use of illegal drugs, why should the taxpayers subsidize it?

let me put it this way.

The iraq war will be going on perpetually.

Steroids can kill our youth or do serious damage to them emotionally.

We need will need a steady supply of fresh fodder to send to Iraq. Any military regime as you know always protects its supply lines.

I think the guy testified in congress he didn't use them, big mistake.

As the owners, union, players did nothing seems someone should have.
