Many women retain water and gas in their bodies around the time of their period. It's called bloating and it's totally normal. It can be uncomfortable sometimes, so if it bothers you try taking Midol. Cut down on your salt intake and try to exercise.

It's normal to gain weight around your period, especially if the cause is bloating. I gain about 3-5 pounds around my period.

Many women retain water in association with their period. I usually retain water for about two days, and after that it's back to normal. It's no need to be concerned, although you can take a diuretic if you want to.
