Not before the Electoral College meats but before the election. How would canidates be selected to replace them?

If it was too close to the election. People would have to vote for the Ticket as is and take their chances on who the Party chose to serve.

If that happened to the Democratic Ticket, the Republicans would be screwed. Ask John Ashcroft. He lost his Senate seat to a dead guy.

The parties would have the option to select replacements.

Don't know. It's never happened before. But I imagine it would be up to the political party involved to nominate replacements.

I think the next in line is speaker of the house.

Elections would not be affected other than more open seats to be filled - of which some are appointed, not elected.

The runner up would get the party's nomination and select his/her vice president.
