How often do you have to refill a zippo?

I don't smoke so I don't know. I just bought someone a zippo as a gift...& now I'm wondering how often he will have to refill it & if he will get annoyed with that...lol! And what do you use to refill them & how much are the refills?

There are two types of Zippo lighters these days: the old fluid lighter, and the newer butane gas-lighters.

I've been using classic Zippo's from my time in the Navy for the last 20 odd years, and I refill mine, on average, once a week. It is VERY simple to do.

Locally, in California, Zippo lighter fluid is $2.50 for a 4oz bottle which tends to last me about 9-12 months.

Use lighter fluid to refill it. It's very cheap, maybe 2 bucks for a 4 oz. bottle. If he smokes a lot, he might refill it once a week or so. The flints are replaceable too, those might go out after a few months. Make sure he reads about proper refilling of a zippo. It can be a hazard. The wick should last a long time if it is exposed properly.
