Tax payers didn't pay for the mitchell report, Major League baseball did.

In the interest, there may be concern because baseball alone has specific anti-trust exemptions, and those are always worth re-considering. It is a very special deal with the govt that no their sport or business has. the govt is right to look into abuse of special deals.

Also, the govt at various levels subsidizes construction of baseball stadiums and their nearby infrastructure, and so they have a vested interest in the public's continued trust of the sport as fair in order to protect their investments.

Because if we can clean up professional sports, maybe our kids will stop juicing also. Maybe we can expand drug testing to schools. Maybe the billions of dollars wasted on health care for older people who are sick BECAUSE they abused certain drugs will be saved.
I'd rather clean up America rather than continue to send money to Iraq, Africa and South America, which we will never see back.
