They hired the ex-Pirates GM!!! hahahaha.....sucks to be a Cubs fan!
At least they won't blow it in the playoffs anymore, since they'll never make the playoffs again as long as he's there.

Oooooh...okay...so he's not their GM. Sorry my bad. But still....the Pirates GM CANNOT be a good scout! He is good at getting rid of good talent, but he couldn't find a new talent to replace it!

he was hired as a scout which means that he doesn't actually make any decisions. he is obviously good at something since he managed to get to the top of the pirates organization, and I assume based on this hiring that he is good at scouting.

I don't know how you could honestly judge the GM of a team that wont allow him to keep any of his good players !!! That's like saying the old Expos GM was bad. As soon as he got a Pedro or Vlad or any other all star they had to trade them. Pirates are a farm system for the rest of the league to pick from. Not fair to judge him when he wasn't allowed to keep his best players.
PS The Cubs will still win the central with the team they have right now. If they add a SP or 2 they could make some noise in the playoffs and possibly win it all.

I was like wait a minute, they replaced Jim Hendry. Or more or less confused of what happened? But I see they they hired him as scout, but you have to give him a chance, maybe he will be better as a scout then a genral manger. I don't know, but it looks like he has been hired for the 2008 season only, so he could be with them for one year, he might leave, or him to a new contract. But either way, I don't expect the Chicago Cubs to make it to the playoffs, net year. When was the last time, (if ever) the Chicago Cubs made the playoffs 2 years in a row?

The Cubs are bad enough. But even hiring a bad scout won't affect them much. If they hired him as a manager or a GM, that would be bad. But he's a scout. You're going to say he's head scout, but that really doesn't matter. You won't hear much more on this, scouts get lost in the mix. However that was a nice article to update people on.

He was hired as a scout, what effect will he really have on the Organization? Do you realize that there are hundreds of "Scouts" for every team. THey are all over and most teams will look to former GM's and Managers to be scouts.

Okay...you might want to read the articles you post. (That is, if you can read.) They hired him as a scout, not a GM.
Sounds like someone's grapes are sour because they know the Cubs are rocking in '08.

That Pirates GM is an idiot. I think Jim Hendry is still making the moves.
