My baby should be arriving any day now! Im the first among my family/cousins to have a baby in quite a few years. So im not quite sure how the baby announcements are done nowadays.

Do I use the picture from the hospital and just send the picture with a card?? Or is this method outdated? Do I wait until I take baby in for pictures... if so it may be over a month!

Whats the announcement etiquette nowadays? If you do use the hospital pictures how do I get copies of them, etc?

You could take the picture yourself and go to a Wal-Mart and you can choose which card you want with your pic. It's at the photo dept. Go ask for details.

I am not going to send announcements because everyone I need to tell knows except a few out of town people but I will contact by phone. I think that pictures of the baby when its first born are fine and that maybe you should send it with the card that way if family wants to frame it they can or to put it in an album with the invitation also. So you can see the picture and the info.

Some type of announcement with a picture is the norm. For our first child I typed of all the birth stats (birth date, length, weight, name, parent's names) and had it printed onto a nice card stock and included a portrait studio picture that was taken when he was 3 weeks old. So those announcements went out about 6 weeks after he was born.

For our daughter I was in more of a time crunch because she was born 1 month before Christmas and I wanted the birth announcements to go out with Christmas cards. I took a picture myself with a digital camera. Then in my computer I tweaked the color to a sepia tone and typed the stats right onto the picture with "It's a Girl" and her name across the top and everything else across the bottom of the picture.

It's all up to your preferences for what type (if any) of annoucement you want to do.

I took my own pictures and chose which I liked best. I also used Microsoft Office Publisher adn made what I think turned out to be BEAUTIFUL cards for a LOT less money. I think ettiquette now says at least by the time baby is 6 months old although that seems like an awful long time to me.

Cards with the pic are great. At least I think. A pic taken from at digi camera at the hospital is great. Also take a pic of the little hands and feet and the group of mom, dad and baby togther. Then make a little photo collage using a photo program.
