Kalapana Hawaii & Volcano National Park, fresh lava flow took out the ancient fishing village a while back. Only a couple things which require no soil can restart the soil on the old flows, Ohia tree being one of them, it takes years for the flow to cool, decades.

If you're talking about crops, it's usually called non-arable. Otherwise, infertile or barren are used.
