i for some reason got mice in the house.i think its because of the cold weather outside.so i got some traps, you know the ones that will almost take your finger off.well i put peanut butter on them and they cleaned em right off without setting off the traps,GRRR!!i set them off to see if they were sensitive and they were.should i glue something to them, got any good ideas.i dont want to use de-con cause they will just die in the house and smell it up.there must be a way to fasten something to the trigger to make them set it off.

Try putting the bait (peanut butter) inside the holes in the trigger and even put some underneath it. Basically, you want them to work a little harder getting the bait so they'll nudge the trigger enough to set off the trap.

Glue traps are another option.

Instead of peanut butter, try using a real peanut. Break off any that isnt firmly attached so the next mouse won't have anything to get after the first one is dead. Rebait the trap the same way again.... Peanuts are hard for the mouse to remove and will almost always set the trap off before he gets started good. You can get 3 or 4 mice on one baiting usually if you remove them as soon as they get caught and killed.

I worked at a candy factory for awhile and as you can imagine they have to be vigilant in keeping bugs and rodents out of the plant. The guy that checks the traps told me the best thing to catch mice is not food but bedding and nesting material. They are the consummate nest builders and are always looking to "trade up". He suggested gluing a cotton ball or some other type of material that could be used to make a nest. He said it works every time and its less messy than peanut butter.

I used live-traps and took the detainees for a ride to a place that's about 1/2 mile from any inhabited buildings.

The main reason I switched to live traps is that the old-fashioned bail traps were catching mice alive, but badly injured, and that seemed inhumane and left me with the chore of euthanizing them.

Lose the traps you have and get some glue traps and set the bait right in the middle of the glue traps.

This should be working for you, try using less peanut butter so they are a little more desperate. Patience should prevail over these critters.
