Historic records are being broken. If these guys weren't breaking some baseballs most beloved records, you probably wouldn't be hearing much about this.

I think you've touched on something interesting here which is generally overlooked.

There's a belief that football players are supposed to be wild, violent men who throw their bodies around without regard to their personal well-being. Roid rage? Heck, Lawrence Taylor seemed to have that for 10 years. Merriman was suspended for four games last year and still played in the Pro Bowl. Meanwhile, baseball players have slightly different standards, perhaps in part to standards.

I'm not saying that those that talk about the management and union looking the other way for years are wrong. But the mentality of the game certainly plays a role here, and it's been a little undercovered.

With Ken Caminiti admitted to taking steroids and Canseco trying to make a buck, the accusations started flying. Then the Balco scandal and McGuire, Sosa, and Palmiero going before the grand jury, steroids took center stage in Baseball.

Rodney Harrison was suspended this year for admitting to taking HGH and a Cowboys' coach was suspended for HGH so it happens in Football. Football and Basketball have much tougher testing and the Baseball union has blocked all types of regular testing.

Steroids are illegal in the U.S.
HGH is a banned substance by the baseball league.
Footballers do and the NFL has a stiff penalty for using them.

until they get killed on a cross, they are not crucified. and the NBA and NFL obviously did a better job handling this issue before it became one.
