I call it supper, but that is because I lived in the deep south for 30 years.

Dinner is the biggest meal of the day, regardless of when it is. Supper is the evening meal. Lunch is the meal during the middle of the day.
You can have dinner at lunchtime, for example Sunday dinner where you have lots of food and it's special. Or, on a holiday. However, if are eating at McDonald's or having leftovers, it's lunch.
Dinner can be in the evening if it's a big sit-down meal. But again, if you are just having a sandwich on your own, it's not dinner, it's supper.
I hope this is helpful.

I grew up Up North, but have lived more than half my life down here, so I'm likely to call it either supper or dinner.

I say dinner even though i was told that years ago it was called supper and what we call lunch was called dinner. I think its the northern influence of the many years that has cause so many southern changes. But not ALL of them changed EVERYTHING! *wink*
