I have a pecan tree that I, personally, planted in 1971 when this house belonged to my father. Last year I had a phenomenal harvest from this 50+ foot tree. This year we got NO pecans, and looking at the neighbors' trees they aren't faring any better. Is this a regional thing (Lubbock, Texas) or is this a nation-wide thing?

I'm ashamed that I got tired of gathering the amazing amount of pecans last year, because now I would be Praising the Father for even a small amount of that yield.

Shasta : Last year we got an amazing amount of rain for this semi-arid area. I have kind of thought that maybe the tree was taking a break from having to be in "survival mode" for so long. It makes sense to me.

I'm a pretty serious about my garden, which does not include pecans or any nuts. The best place to go for information is your local Ag Extension, assuming you have one, because they'll take a look at a leaf you bring in and diagnose any problem you might have.

Failing that, university horticulture departments are an absolute wealth of information. I looked at a few and found Texas A&M excellent on pecans, linked.

Happy eating!

It is normal for a tree's fruit crop to vary from year to year. A tree can not afford the resources to produce a bumper crop in consecutive years, therefore, it is normal for trees to produce in cycles - a good year followed by a bad year. Weather and rainfall, diseases & insects also play a role in a tree's yearly crop production.

you're able to desire to objective a owl or hawk decoy to put in the tree or get a chunk of sheet steel approximately 4 or 5 foot tall to flow around the backside of the tree ,this might ward off the squirrels from mountain climbing on it,as far as getting the tree to no longer produce any pecans ,you're able to seek for suggestion from a tree physician

pecan trees don't have pecans every year . my trees don't have any this year either i have four trees its because lack of rain or to much rain . in the spring when my trees were getting leaves on them it came a big frost and all the leaves died it took quit sometime for them to come back . don't worry next year you might be overwhelmed with them and remember you can freeze them in your freezer then you can have them anytime of year.

Pecans from time to time can have a cycle once and a while of no fruit. It might have been a pollination problem this past year.

Best to speak to an extension agent or an arborist.

i live in Florida and the pecan harvest here was minuscule my mother sells produce and one of her top sellers were pecans . so she had to heve them brought in from Georgia who had a slightly better harvest. they have the volume but small size wise. i thought for a while it was our lack of rain in fl but they had a drought in Ga as well so i don't know.
