Absolutely send a card!! It is certainly not weird, and if you intend to ask them for a reference in the future again, then you should always send a periodic card or something to keep you in their mind. A holiday greetings card would be a perfect opportunity.
Also, always write a thank you note once they agree to be your reference. If you time it so it's close to the due date of the recomendation, it'll also serve as a friendly reminder for them to get it done (if they haven't done so already). Include a line about how much it means for you, etc. If you landed the job or were accepted for a position or the school thanks to a positive recommendation from the professor, then write another card to say thanks again and tell them how grateful you are for their support and help, and how excited you are or how much you're enjoying it. Don't do both if they're too close in time, but if they're some months apart, it's a good way to keep professors informed as to what and how you're doing, and show your appreciation.
This may seem like a lot, but a good reference who can write a strong recommendation is priceless for getting that next job, position, raise, etc. I still have undergraduate professor/employer write recommendations and work their magic from time to time. I even drop by their offices when I'm in town to say hi and catch up. Keep them informed as to what you're up to and how you're doing, and make sure they know how much you appreciate their help. A reference will be happier to write a letter for such a person (and it will sound more genuine and strong and less formulaic) compared to a letter written out of obligation for a student who only pops up when they need something.

The Christmas card is not necessary, but would be fine.
However, you should always write a thank you letter to everyone who write a letter of reference for you. This should always be the case as you go through life. The Christmas card would be a nice added touch if you feel comfortable with it. But, I'd make sure that thank you letter was in the card.

Not at all. And if you feel like a Christmas card is a little too much, just simply send them a thank you card.
I love getting thank you cards, they make it seem like taking the extra time to help somebody was worth it because I know they appreciated it if they take the extra time out of THEIR day to do something nice for me in return.

Not weird at all.
I think it is necessary. They took their time to help you and (hopefully) made a difference to you.

Send Happy Holidays notes as you don't know if they would be offended (esp if they are Jewish). Don't make it too personal, just "Thanks for your assistance in my application to colleges. Happy Holidays!"

You don't have to, but I bet they would feel extremely appreciated. They probably do not get those that often and it is a very nice gesture.
