I have a website in which I will be sending customers money. I want to send them through checks but I'm afraid people may try to rig the checks and put a false amount of money or try to scam me using my bank info on the check. Should I open a business account with the bank and will they allow me to issue checks with just the business name and not any personal bank info. that can lead to a scam? Or are there others ways to send the customers money without handling high transfer fees?

you can get a money order from walmart. the fees differ across stores, but at my walmart they charge 36 cents apiece. that's less than the cost of postage...

i don't see why you'd be worried about checks. if you draw a line before and after the amount, it can't really be altered. i print mine from the computer's printer. you should also drop them off into a mailbox, not let a postal carrier pick it up from your personal mailbox. the worst that could happen - somebody attempts a fraudulent ACH withdrawal from your account. oh well, there's federal law against that - what i do is make sure to check my balance daily online to make sure there isn't unauthorized activity.

If you issue a check, it has to have your account number and routing number on the check. Most other information is optional. However, most businesses will not cash checks for customers unless the check has a name and address as well. If you decide to do this, make sure the bank has well written policies on fraud protection and error correction. Read them carefully to make sure you are protected. The check your statements very carefully each month.

Sending money via PayPal is cheap and safe. The only info you give out and need to get from your customers would be an email address. I believe it's free to send money. It's also free to receive certain transfers. www.paypal.com
