The Dell XPS 1330 would be a good choice, a top seller with great reviews.

I recently quoted a laptop for a friend. I did a lot of research and looked at all the major brands. I made my selection and then I checked Consumer Reports for their opinion.

What I had picked placed 2nd behind a Mac. Both were 17" widescreen monitors, 2.4GHz Intel Core2Duo, 160G HD, 2G RAM, CD/DVD +/- drive, built in wi-fi; bluetooth capable, webcam, full size keyboard and some other features. The only difference was that the Mac monitor was rated "better" and the Dell was rated "good". The ratings were "poor; fair, good, very good, excellent". None scored excellent for monitors.

The Dell I recommended was an Inspiron 1720 laptop and was $1000 less than the Mac with the only difference being in the monitor rating. The Mac was $2800 and the Dell was on sale for $1603 from $1800. So in reality there was a $1200 difference in price.

So based upon price and overall quality, I went with the Dell. My friend loves it. I'd strongly recommend that you at least look at it.

Hope this helps.
