I'm sticking with oil field trash on this one. He has the correct concept for your application of the materials.

You will have to special order a sheet of plywood to get one in the size you are asking for. I suggest you go to your local lumber yards and see if they will do that for you. According to this site, you can get a 5' by 9' sheet.
http://www.sizes.com/materls/plywood_softwood.htm#Dimensions
A more practical way to do this is to use standard 4' by 8' sheets and cut them to minimize the seams. Then sand them smooth after assembly.
I would get four sheets and cut four 2-1/2 foot wide by 4-1/2 foot long pieces. This would put the seams right in the middle of each side and one seam right under the net. With some care in assembly you should be able to get a very smooth surface that would work well.
You are going to have to build a sturdy frame with legs anyway, so this is not really going to a big problem.

Maybe these people know something I don't, but I shop at these store and work on houses and all wood I know comes in 4 ft x 8 ft sheets. Sorry you will need two sheets. They will cut them to the size you need but a full sheet is 8 ft x 4 ft.

I know you can get plywood in lengths, like 8' 9' etc. but as far as the width the only width i know of, or that i've seen is in 4' widths. Thickness varies alot so that would be no problem.

no such thing on the market, has to be special ordered, what you will have to do is buy 2 - 4 x 8 sheets, glue and brace a 1 ft section on to the 8 ft side and 1 ft sections on to the 4 ft ends, that will give you a 9 x 5 board,

you can get some types of sheet material in 5' widths but as far as lengths go it would have to be 10' this is generally considered to be special order material and generally requires a minimal order , generally special orders from the manufacturer want a min. order of two pallets of material at one time. i would suggest that you go to your local cabinet shop and see if they can help you . it sound to me like your going to have to spline two sheets together minimum. to get what you want .
