Just ask your neighbors if you can use theres and offer to pay a small share of the cost. Maybee you can both get off a little cheaper. They might have plenty of bandwith they never use and would be glad to share.

If you're not currently paying for internet access, shop around your area for an ISP. You could start with your cable or phone company, as they are the most likely choices for high-speed internet (where high-speed is in comparison to a dial-up account using acoustic transmission... it doesn't necessarily mean "fast").

Expect to pay anywhere from $20 to $80 a month for common 'residential' internet access. Read the fine print for anything that says 'unlimited'... it could just mean the size of your monthly bill is unlimited. Before you make a choice, check with sites such as consumerist.com if you care to possibly find out the bad side of your ISP.

Once you have your own internet connection, you'll need a wireless 'router'. These are devices which have an antenna and 2 or more wired connections that you can connect to your ISP's internet service. They aren't that expensive, with cheap ones in the $50-$75 range; more expensive ones have better antennas for greater range and support faster wireless protocols/encryption.

You need your own ISP. Try your local cable TV provider or DSL from your telephone company. Costs vary on speed. Expect $25 to $45 per month.

If you are plugging your laptop into an external modem that is hooked up to your satellite dish then you are on your own net service.

they obviously don't mind or they would have it closed rather than open. For example, we have wireless internet, and I specifically left it open for anyone w/in range to use.
