If the outfielder maintains possession of the ball while falling over the fence then the batter is out! If he drops the ball, it's a home run!

If he hangs onto the ball and doesn't drop it in mid-fall, it's an out. There was a play like that in the 1925 World Series, Hall-of-Famer Sam Rice. Look it up sometime, it's a great story.

Even if the fielder doesn't fall, he just literally reaches his glove over the fence and catches it, it's still an out!
