I really wish after spending so much time and obtaining ridiculous amounts of loan money that I could say University of Phoenix was an excellent experience but it definitely wasn't. Long story short the school cares more about your money than your personal goals in education. Why do you think you see more pop-up ads and spam from U of P on the internet more than Viagra, and Trim-Spa ads nowadays? A real private school no matter how much "for profit" they are still put their money back into the schools for Science, Research, Educational Technology in classrooms, etc. which U of P seems to not spend a penny on.

I would highly suggest for anyone thinking of going back to school to look into a local community or Jr. college and transfer into a real university, one where employers will say "Hey I know this school and it's known for its so and so educational programs and/or football team" Because the reality is that's what they talk about in their offices when looking at resumes. Many local Universities offer online education as well, you may not get every single class online but you can start with the ones you can at this point. Going back to school is not easy regardless of doing it online or on campus especially with a full time job and family, but one thing for sure is you have to make it worth your time.

Schools like U of P that are known for their advertising more than their educational programs will make employers laugh more than impressed.

Careful Elaine, you could be sued for saying "Businesses find U of P diplomas a joke, as they are a mill." on a public forum; that's an actionable statement since University of Phoenix is regionally accredited and recognized by the US Dept. of Education. You can say you didn't like the experience and why but, you may not call them something they are not - and they don't meet the definition of a mill. Whatever else they are, University of Phoenix is not a diploma mill and they are recognized in all 50 state.

That said, there are much better options out there with much higher reputations that will cost you much less. I'd suggest looking at some of the state colleges that offer degrees online such as UMass or UFlorida.

Both hubby and I did Masters there- online and on campus. We were both happy with our experience. The only downside I saw was that the online program was so expensive. Also, some people don't seem to give it as much credit as like a state university.

HORRIBLE! DON'T DO IT!
Expensive. Bad teachers. Didn't learn a thing, but I did get straight A's. And I did all the work for our "Learning Teams", because no one else could write a sentence.
Businesses find U of P diplomas a joke, as they are a mill. Pay their bills and you'll get an A. Don't show up, you'll get an A.
Find another school is my recommendation.

If you get your degree from them online, there are many employers down south that don't recognize it as a real degree and therefore would be a waste of money. I was going to do that myself until my bf told me the little bit about it not being recognized as a real degree down south. Good Luck and Merry Christmas.
