I will buy them FOOD if they ask for food or a bus ticket - I've done both. But you are never to give them money. Give to the shelters that provide beds & food for them so they can continue to do so. If they need food or shelter (especially if elderly or a child) in MOST areas they can get that - if they are asking for money most of the time it's for something they cannot get at the shelter - as in drugs or alcohol. I know people mean well but it's seldom the right (or smart) thing to do. Once a friend of mine said she pulled her wallet out to help someone out at a bus stop that said he just needed money for the bus to get home and?.. they grabbed her wallet and took off with it. No. Once when I was a kid my father gave a woman on the street money. She followed my father home and would come and ask for money. Using the excuse that she had a child to feed. She did have a child with her. My father got sick of it and I think he had to threaten her with the police. She looked like a junkie. I personally have no tolerance for people like that. I thought the woman pathetic using a child to scam money off guys. I understand that a person can have honestly hard times. But some people are just scam artist. I've dealt with my share of them.

I give money to one begger in particular. And that's because he makes me laugh every time I see him. His signs read "Family killed by ninjas, raising money for karate lessons," "Why live in a million dollar house when I can live under a 10 MILLION dollar bridge?" He has like 10 signs that are hilarious. The rest don't get anything from me... Specially the "god bless" ones. Bleh.

Hell and no.....cause if I am out here struggling with two kids by myself, they can do it to. I sure wish that I can just quit my job and take up space somewhere and BEG people for money all day. It doesn't work like that....

Nope. But I will buy them a sandwich or whatever it is that they're asking for. Some are grateful, some are not.
