I heard on the news today, that a penny postcard, featuring a colored drawing of Santa & a young girl, was late being delivered. Would you believe "93" year's late? The card was mailed in 1914 but it's journey was slower than Christmas. It just arrived in NW Kansas. The card was dated Dec. 23, 1914 & addressed to Ethel Martin of Oberlin, Kansas, from her cousin in Alma, Nebraska. Ninety three years later, the card ended up with Bernice Martin, sister-in-law, of the now deceased, Ethel Martin, to whom the card was addressed. The card was placed inside another envelope with modern postage, for the trip to Oberlin, Kansas. Wherever it was, it was in perfect shape. Any ideas where it's been all these years?

Miz D...That was the first thought I had too. Maybe it slipped into a crack somewhere & wasn't found until now. Just my opinion.

A few years ago (10), I mailed a birthday card to one of the girls in my Sunday school class. The weekend of her birthday her mother asked if I had sent her a card. I replied I did. Since I had sent her sister one the year before, the young (4th grade) girl expected one from me, also. They live less than 2 miles away. She finally got the card...11 days after I mailed it.
Last June I was in Oregon and sent all the kids in my Sunday school class a post card (as I always do when I'm out of town for a time). Just before Halloween one of the boys thanked me for HIS card. He had received it just that Tuesday!

I read this too. I just think it was very thoughtful of some postal employee to send this on. Mail has been getting lost sense writing was invented. It's nice that this was found and an effort made to deliver it. It is a shame the recipient had passed on.

That is a great story. Think how much it means to Bernice Martin. Great story to be handed down to Ethel Martins ancestors.

I imagine somebody found it in cleaning or remodeling, slipped down behind something, and just stuck it in the mail to go. Probably just to see what would happen, and never told anybody, but is quietly snickering at all the fuss. I would have done the same thing, lol!

Well, they say, "the mail must go through", but they didn't say when!!! My friend worked at a P.O. in Huntington Beach, CA and she found a card that was many years old and went ahead and delivered like she didn't know any better!!! I'll bet the people that read it tripped out!!!

That's sad and amazing all at the same time. I am surprised they actually took the time to send it on. Too bad the intended recipient had already passed.

Santa had it stuck in a pocket of a suit that he hadn't used in many years -- like everyone else, he pulled the 'check's in the mail ' excuse

I heard that too. My guess the postcard has been sitting on the post office counter all these years, I think it is great it finally found it's way home.

I bet some post office was remodeled and the postcard was found back behind a counter or drawer. Interesting!

The PO probably replaced a 2 ton sorter and it was in behind it. At least they sent it on.
