There is power in all elements. Fire is an overwelming power that can bring life as quickly as it can destroy. Its the closest this to life and death you will ever find on earth. Earth is a raw power that can be completly destroyed only to grow back 10 times stronger and more resistant. Air is a flowing power that never stops. It can make a cool breeze that flows with the seasons and time reminding you of change to come. Water is a pure power that learns and feels from the things around it. Its a huge element that is creative and can break through rock over time. All elements are powerful with weakness that why when us humans come together its not a battle of the elements like it would be in nature. Or is it?

Earth is the most powerful because it's a solid and has more energy (Energy = mass, multiplied by the constant [speed of light] squared). Earth has the ability to displace any of the other elements immediately. All of the elements can affect eachother, but only over long periods of time will any of them affect earth. If you put down a big slab of Earth somewhere, that is the be-all/end-all for any of the other elements in that spot for a long time to come.
Second is water. Earth can displace water, and water will displace wind and smother fire.
Then there is fire and wind:
Wind and fire are the weakest. They're essentially the same: fire has more thermal energy, but it requires a third source of energy to create that thermal energy, according to the second law of thermodynamics. The more thermal energy it has, the more disordered its state.

If I could control any of these, it would be Earth, and I would choose to use said power for no purpose other than preservation of life and the well-being of others.

I think Earth wold be the strongest, and if I had to chose any one of those powers, I'd choose earth.

The rocks/soil turns into lava when heated by fire, become thick mud when mixed with water, or can whirl into brutal sandstorms with fueled by the wind.

Plants can burn and die by fire, drown in water, and can be blown around or away by the wind, but the rocks and the soil can make for deadly weapons with mixed with either or those or by itself. Rocks hurt when they fling themselves at you, lol.

As far as we know, life requires water to form and remain in existence. That is a pretty powerful attribute. Interesting question though.
