This is the first scenario: Say, that Iraq was just as powerful a country as the US but Islamic extremists still resided there and it was a dictatorship under the rule of Saddam Hussein. Say some crazy British extremists went into Iraq and killed millions of Iraqis. Iraq invades Britain. Then, since we, the US have nuclear weapons and different values Iraq invaded our country. Does Iraq invading the U.S. make sense?
Second scenario: Using the same set up where Iraq and the U.S. are equal powers and Iraq is a dictatorship, say a few crazy American extremists go into Iraq and kill millions of people. Iraq wages war on the U.S., killing loved ones, bombing our cities and houses . Food is scarce, water and electricity are shut down. If you were in this situation, wouldn't you fight back? Wouldn't you be angry even if you lived in a bad neighborhood and your life was like a war already? We call angry Iraqis terrorists, but they are just trying to protect themselves?

Just another viewpoint

I heard this point of view on a T.V. show and I was wondering what you would think if the situation was presented the other way around.

You cannot generalize all Iraqis to be terrorists...some really are protecting themselves but wouldn't you if they were waging war on us?

Most people who do that preface it by saying, "I'm just playing devils advocate..." but it can be annoying if you do it all the time, especially when people aren't interested in the other point of view, like if it is a friend just venting about her day. But in many situations it is a good way to make sure you consider both sides of an issue. You certainly could be misunderstood and seen as argumentative, but if you make it clear that you are just playing devil's advocate that shouldn't happen.

I agree with you, But unfortunately people don't think that way anymore!! they only think that if what I do to you is going to make me happy and satisfies me then you should do it no matter what the cost is.
It is really survival of the fittest, no more morality and ethics are taken into consideration.
P.S. Iraq was never an extremist country or a religious country, it was the most secular Arabic country in the Middle East, but now and after the 2003 invasion it is religious and extreme, because no exiatance of any leadership allowed all the Islamic fundamentalist to sneak in and establish their bases and insurgents.

Only comment I can make on that is terrorists are not just trying to protect themselves. They were killing people long before 9/11 and long before we got there. So they can't plead protecting themselves. Also terrorist are still killing people who cause them no harm. Look at some of the missionary people who went there should they have during a war maybe not but still they were not there to kill anyone. So they so can't plead defending themselves.

Look I don't know what you have been told but we are over there not only at war we are helping train the iraqi soldiers themselves and funding alot of what they need to build their army strong. What are they protecting themselves against. We are there for terrorists. With any war your going to have innocent casualties no way around that. But come on people complain when we don't help them and they are being mistreated then they complain when we do. No win with people sometimes is how I feel.

Ehem:

“Fight those who do not believe in Allah…And the Jews say Ezra is the son of God; and the Christians say Christ is the son of God; these are the words of their mouths; they imitate the saying of those who disbelieved before; Allah’s curse be on them; how they are turned away!” (Koran 9:29-30)

...say again?

.“When the sacred months are past, kill those who join other gods wherever you find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them with every kind of ambush; but if they convert and observe prayer and pay the obligatory alms, let them go their way.” (Sura 9:5)

....i beg your pardon? Not Terrorists?

Sure, not every Muslim is a terrorist like not every Christian is a Fundamentalist etc etc.... those who go out and kill "the infidel" are Muslim extremists but...who can overlook blatant statements such as these and say "Oh, Islam is peaceful".
Riiiiiiight.
Hey, don't get me wrong, i have Muslim friends and we get along just peachy. Muslims can be just as good ad devoted as any other - but this? - Scares the crap out of me.

I'm not good at should haves, could haves, what ifs, or hypotheticals. Just what IS. All the rest is speculation, non factual and personal opinion. I'm in the here and now. Let's not forget that Sadam was killing and terrorizing his own people, at first we were Heroes to most of Iraq.

The devil's advocate would raise Saddam from the dead and put him back in power and say never mind. Talk about changing our religion to save our very lives.

All that you have said might be true but with one main difference. We would not be blowing up our own citizens to try and get them to leave. I don't see us bombing our market places and killing innocent people.

95% of the terrorists killed or captured are not Iraqi.
They are Saudi,Jordanian,Afgani,Syrian,Palestinian,Iranian,Turks,Lebanese,ect.
Why are they there?
Their religious leaders sent them, that's why.
If they weren't there, they'd be plotting how to get here and blow our AZZES off, across the country.
