I don't know about that. Perhaps, it's because nice guys/gals give way to those who are not and are content to finish last. Or, maybe in the matter of a walkathon or race, they got shoved off by those not so nice guys/gals that they got far behind the line and finished last. Anyway, there's a saying in Cebuano "Bisan uwahi, basta frontseat." (Never mind if you end up last as long as you got the front seat).

I think the rule of the jungle still applies to us even in modern times. "Survival of the fittest" and the fittest (more aggressive) ones are usually the not so nice people.
