Are there different beliefs (and sects) among Catholics? What are they?

All major beliefs are the same. Some of the liturgical traditions are a bit different.

Actually there are over 20 different Catholic Churches that make up the worldwide Catholic Church.

In addition to the Latin Rite (Roman) Catholic Church, the Eastern Rite Catholic Churches are in full communion with the Pope, and are part of the same worldwide Catholic Church.

I'm sure their are Catholics with different beliefs, but to be a true "catholic" sanctioned by the catholic church then you can only follow what the pope says and can't think for yourself or stray from the path, or else St. Peter( supposedly the first pope, and "catholic" won't let you into heaven.
