otc meds for runny noses and stuff like that are proven not to work honey..for a fever it is ok. you can not treat a cold.. no need to go to the doctor unless fever over 100.1. or gets worse. just treat with love...

If it is just a runny nose and watery eyes, I would not even give her tylenol. Tylenol would be good enough if she had a fever or seemed crabby like she felt poorly, but if she seems to be her usual self, I would skip the meds all together. My little guys gets a runny nose all the time (he is 19 months now) and I don't give him anything - unless he has a fever or is really crabby and lethargic (like he isn't feeling well). I know first colds are hard for mommies, but she will be okay! Just make sure she has lots of fluids, stays inside and gets plenty of rest/cuddle time!

But, yes, tylenol would be enough if you think she needs something. However, you will need to contact the doctor to find out how much to give her since they only state an appropriate does for a 2 year old or 24 pound child. Unless you 6 month old weighs 24 pounds, the doctor (or maybe pharmacist) will have to tell you how much to give her. Please don't just guess. Tylenol is much safer than the cold medications, but you can still give her too much if you are not careful. Also, use those sucker bulbs to get the snot out and help her clear up faster!

Good luck!

Infant Tylenol wont help much with her congestion. My suggestions to you are: To get some Saline drops from your doctor or just mix some salt water at home (not too much salt, though), and put a few drops in your daughters nose. Wait a few minutes and then use a nasal aspiration to suck the loosened mucus out of her nose. Repeat this whenever you hear heavy congestion. She'll put up a hard time, but it'll help. Using a humidifier in the room will also help. As long as you keep clearing her nose out, she'll feel more comfortable until the cold clears up on its own.

My now 8 month old went through the same a few months ago. Baby tylenol and a vaporizor is the best combo. If a fever gets past 101, I'd call the doc's answering service, but in general, the tylenol is fine.

Why give her Tylenol at all? If she is not running a fever, she does not need it. Try using a humidifier. If you don't have one, steam up the bathroom and sit in there with her for 10-15 minutes. Keep her head elevated, use saline and the nasal aspirator, give her lots of hugs and nurse her often. No need to medicate a simple cold.

You don't necessarily need to even give her Tylenol if she isn't running a fever... unless you think she's in pain. Vicks makes a great Baby Vicks formula that is intended for infants 2 months old and up, you might try it! They also have a plug in menthol vaporizer. Try to offer her more clear liquids along with her formula. You can also use saline nose drops in her nose to loosen the sniffles up! Best of luck to you!

I wouldn't necessarily give the tylenol unless she is in pain, like the other responder said. My favorite trick is to leave the humidifier running in whatever room the baby is in most of the time. I'm also a huge fan of vicks rub, try it on the feet. It gives a nice calm feeling and you still get the vapors to loosen up the breathing; yet you don't feel like you're drowning in menthol. :-) Good luck.

If she doesn't seem uncomfortable, she'll be okay. If she needs the tylenol, it's safe to give it to her, but it's not going to help her symptoms.

I'd just keep her in an upright position--like in the swing or sitting up, etc. to help the drainage on its way out. Lots & lots of liquids.

If you need to give her something for the drainage, you probably need to call the dr. for a recommendation. Personally I'd use one of the triaminics, but that's just me.

Take care.

Yes you can use that. Keep an eye on her, if the mucus gets green or she gets fever then she needs doctor. If not it will peak in about 3 days then get better.
