I see imperialism as very bad. I'm so grateful that the United States doesn't engage in this practice. We simply try to liberate those under evil regimes, help them build a new goverment, then stay around for a while to make sure they're okay.
Nothing wrong with that, is there?

I see imperialism as a bad thing. As Islamic Imperialism spreads, more and more people are being forced under extreme, oppressive rule. The people of Darfur are being massacred by the growing Islamist Empire.
Forcing people under oppressive rule, one of the hallmarks of Imperialism, is a bad thing all right.
I have to admire the US for defeating other nations in wars they started, then rebuilding those nations, then backing off and letting them govern themselves again. I don't think any other nation would be so magnanimous in victory.

Imperialism is a bad thing. The people that I have met in my life always tell me that they view aid with a skeptical eye, because it always comes with some strings to change how they do things in their own country. They do not like the influence on their government. Change come at it's own time and the USA tends to push before they are ready.

If you think the US practices Imperialism, you are out to lunch.
I think countries like France and Russia - some of history's most prolific imperialists - have some nerve lecturing the US on imperialism.

Imperialism..Marxists see it purely as economic explotation..
I see it as something that has ended almost everywhere in the world after WWII..except maybe where britain thinks they still have a domain..

WAS the way of doing things in the late 1800s and into the mid 1900s but, kind of outdated now... with 24 hr news cycles and the free flow of ideas.
The term imperialism was used from the third quarter of the nineteenth century to describe various forms of political control by a greater power over less powerful territories or nationalities, although analytically the phenomena which it denotes may differ greatly from each other and from the "New" imperialism.
A later usage developed in the early 20th century among Marxists, who saw "imperialism" as the economic and political dominance of "monopolistic finance capital" in the most advanced countries and its acquisition — and enforcement through the state — of control of the means (and hence the returns) of production in less developed regions.
Elements of both conceptions are present in the "New imperialism" of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. But along with the adoption of ultra-nationalist and racial supremacist ideologies, the period saw a shift to pre-emptive colonial expansion, fueled by the imposition of tariff barriers aimed at excluding economic rivals from markets.
English writers have sometimes described elements of this period as the "era of empire for empire's sake," "the great adventure," and "the scramble for Africa." During this period, European nations added 20% of the Earth's land area (nearly 23,000,000 km²) to their overseas colonial holdings (primarily occupying land in Africa). As it was mostly unoccupied by the Western powers as late as the 1880s, Africa became the primary target of the "new" imperialist expansion, although conquest took place also in other areas; notably Southeast Asia and the East Asian seaboard, where Japan and the United States, joined the European powers' scramble for territory.
Was it good or was it bad...does not matter..it is, what it is and it happened, we unfortunately cannot go back in time and stop it from happening or right every wrong committed but, what we can do is study our history and make damn sure it never happens again.
