About 5 years ago, I bought a fake Christmas tree and all kinds of decorations. I probably spend about $250 total on everything. Yes, they are luxury items, but the year I bought them, I had the money to spend.

I don't believe a Christmas tree is a luxury item, it only costs around $40 depending on the size you get.. as far as ornaments/decorations go, I guess it depends. Some people have really nice ornaments that are either collectables or have been passed down for many generations through gamilies, and I would believe those are luxury items. But just the same, you can head to your local department store like Wal-Mark and buy enough decorations to decorate your house and tree for like $50 and it'll last for a few years, so I don't believe that's necessarily a luxury - but you could argue that having the money to do *any* of that is a luxury because some aren't that fortunate.

In a way Christmas trees and decorations are luxury items because they're not necessities but they still represent Christmas and I think everyone should have the chance to get a tree and decorate. I went all out this year since it's me and my boyfriend's first Christmas together. We had to start from scratch and buy everything. Including the tree, we spent about $200 if not more on everything. I spend almost $1,000 on presents so I definitely went all out. But this Christmas is special, so I don't mind.

If it is not neccessary it is a luxury.
I bought a artificial tree a few years ago(on sale for $60) so I don't buy one every year. I am not putting up lights this year and my decorations are the same ones I have had for years.
I make my wreath every year with greens from outside.
I spent $0 dollars on decorations.

In the sense that all items that are not necessary for survival are a luxury.
