Honey, Santa is real. Santa is as real as love. You can't see love - or happiness - or sadness or any other emotion. You can only feel them. But at 13 it's hard not to be a bit self conscious of your own emotions etc. So questioning the existence of Santa is OK. Truly it is.

When people ask you if you believe in Santa (or the tooth fairy) ask them if they believe in love or hope or charity or kindness - but mostly love. Then just smile and say I'm glad we agree on that.

And change the subject.

I think believing in Santa and other holiday entities (i.e. tooth fairy, easter bunny, etc.) are a wonderful symbol of innocence and i believe that it's great for a child to believe in things like that. But if you want the truth of what i believe: The actual person "Santa Claus" delivering gifts to EVERY house in the world in one night is fictional. But i believe that the "spirit" of Santa claus is very real and that when you give a gift to someone you love you become "santa" and you bring christmas cheer to that person. So is santa real? No, but he is a character of an innocent childhood.

This may help a bit. Way back in 1897 a girl not much younger than you are asked the same question. The question and the answer has become famous throughout the world.

"DEAR EDITOR: I am 8 years old.
"Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus.
"Papa says, 'If you see it in THE SUN it's so.'
"Please tell me the truth; is there a Santa Claus?

"VIRGINIA O'HANLON.
"115 WEST NINETY-FIFTH STREET."

VIRGINIA, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. They do not believe except [what] they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Virginia, whether they be men's or children's, are little. In this great universe of ours man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect, as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge.

Yes, VIRGINIA, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus. It would be as dreary as if there were no VIRGINIAS. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The eternal light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished.

Not believe in Santa Claus! You might as well not believe in fairies! You might get your papa to hire men to watch in all the chimneys on Christmas Eve to catch Santa Claus, but even if they did not see Santa Claus coming down, what would that prove? Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that is no sign that there is no Santa Claus. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that's no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world.

You may tear apart the baby's rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived, could tear apart. Only faith, fancy, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, VIRGINIA, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding.

No Santa Claus! Thank God! he lives, and he lives forever. A thousand years from now, Virginia, nay, ten times ten thousand years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood."

Santa is real in miracles, hope, and for most children.

If you want to believe in him be my guest.. i went since i was in 3rd grade up until 7th "believeing" in him. i didnt want to take the chance of not getting presents. but then i said if its jesus' birthday, he doesn't want anybody upset. so i started going to church more and that kind of thing. i was finally like im not going to lie " i havent believed in santa since i was like 8 " and i still got stuff.

Your parents go out and buy gifts for you [ for some.. all year long ] and they hide them. im sure if you really wanted to find the gifts you easily could. mine were in my moms room with a blanket over them. it seems like it would be easy to see.. but it looked normal and when i thought about it thats when i realized what was under the blanket. then she moved them in a huge storage room with only shelves downstairs and locked it and said she doesnt want anybody to eat the food down there. haha.

Santa does not come to your house on the 25th at 12 in the morning... it honestly is your parents staying up to make every Christmas a good one.

I am only 14 if that makes you feel any better.. and i say a prayer to jesus every christmas eve and christmas morning. And it isn't like the surprise is ruined when you find out Santa isn't real.. if you have older brothers and sisters think about it they are still full of joy on Christmas morning and you still will be, too. Because a gift will always be a gift. That will never change.

Don't try finding the gifts.. it may ruin the surprise :]

And still ask to put reindeer food outside to make sure Santa comes [ sparkles with oatmeal ] that makes your parents feel amazing.. like they did something good. because if you still believe anywhere past 5 years old; id say your parents did good ;] dont tell them you know that santa isnt real. just give them a big hug and kiss. and they will know.

Quotes you may want to think about..

*Sometimes.. Seeing isn't believing. Believing is seeing.
[ Santa Clause 1 ]

* Neil: What about Santa's reindeer? Have you even seen a reindeer fly?

Charlie: Yes.

Neil: Well, I haven't.
...
Charlie: Have you ever seen a million dollars?

Neil: No.

Charlie: Just because you can't see something, doesn't mean is doesn't exist.
[ Santa Clause 1]

* Buddy: What about santa's cookies? I suppose parents eat those too?

by the time i was 13 i had doubt about santa too. that is when i found an order form for the PS2 "santa" gave us on my mom's desk.

but by the time i was 13 i had subconsiously dismissed the thought of santa as a fat man comming down my chimney and thought of him as a spirit that brought joy to christmas and gave the younger kids a chance to be innocent kids with out worrying about life like teens have to.

so no the jolly old fat man is not real

but the spirit of christmas "santa claus" is real

The person that leaves the presents out is your mom or dad. If you stay up late enough you will listen to them. Or just ask them and they'll probably tell you at your age. Santa represents the spirit of christmas though, and that is pretty real and inspiring.

Santa claus?
First off, Santa's proper name is Saint Nicholas, though he's picked up a lot of nicknames throughout the years, including Kris Kringle, Father Christmas and Sinterklaas.

Saint Nicholas of Myra was a saint who lived back in the 4th Century in Byzantia (modern-day Turkey) who had the reputation of secretly giving gifts to the poor. Most famously, legend has it that he presented three desperately poor daughters of a Christian with dowries so they wouldn't end up as prostitutes.

St. Nicholas is still revered as the patron saint of seamen, merchants, archers, children, prisoners, pawnbrokers, and even prostitutes. He's also one of the patron saints of Russia.

Saint Nicholas of Turkey (from Wikipedia)Saint Nick inspired two legends: Nikolaus in Germany, and Sinterklaas in the Netherlands, both of which directly contributed to the legend of Santa Claus himself.

Depictions of Santa Claus as a jolly, heavy white bearded older man are apparently directly lifted from the Russian mythological character Ded Moroz (Grandfather Frost). Ded Moroz is historically represented as wearing a red coat, fur boots and a long white beard. Since Russian immigration directly influenced much of the Western European and then American tradition, it's very likely that our current picture of Santa Claus is directly from Grandfather Frost.

Many of the historical legends behind Santa Claus also involve children leaving out fodder in their shoes for the horse that Saint Nicholas, Sinterklaas, or similar rode. Most likely that's what has evolved into the modern tradition of hanging stockings by the fireplace, actually.

The definitive modern interpretation of Santa Claus, however, is widely agreed to have been The Night Before Christmas (formerly known as "A Visit from St. Nicholas", actually), wherein Santa is described as being heavyset and riding a sleigh pulled by eight reindeer who are named for the first time in this 1823 publication. Another popular publication early in the 19th Century was The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus, by Wizard of Oz author L. Frank Baum.

Okay, so that's the academic side of things. Interesting, but missing a certain level of heart, of soul.

So is there a Santa Claus?

Well, we live in a world where the idea of someone rewarding good behavior in this life, rather than the next (or at the door to the Pearly Gates) sounds darn nice, and particularly for children, is a good reminder of the rewards of thrift, virtue, compassion and honesty. And those are sorely missing attributes in our modern world, if you ask me.

So yes, I think that there is a Santa Claus.

I'll certainly make sure we leave a plate of cookies and glass of milk out on Christmas Eve. How about you?

santa is real, he is in your heart, he is the magic in the air at christmas time.
all you have to do is look around you, look at the happiness in people's faces, the joy in the little one's eyes, the faith in all of us.
if there were no santa, no magic, then how do you explain at christmas, throughout the years, war stops - for a very brief time the world comes together and ceases fighting in honor of christmas. soldiers have been known to cross the line and shake hands with their enemies, share a bar of chocolate, or a cigarette. think of it, men who five minutes earlier had been doing their best to kill each other come together for a brief time and share a moment of peace.
christmas is about the birth of Christ, and every year it is the magic that we look for! santa inspires us to keep the faith and he makes christmas fun!
merry christmas!
