Had both, the new one blows the old one away. Prefer the comforts of today's machines.

The original mini should have been a fun little car, unfortunately the build quality was what you would expect from a workforce that spent most of their time outside the factory gate on strike. The designers seemed to have a fetish for using cardboard for most of the internal trim. While it was safe to drive (good roadholding &c.) it was not so good in an accident and I certainly wouldn't want to drive one nowadays. Even less the Metro/Rover 100 which was shown to be a death-trap in crash testing. Go with the BMW version, It's what it should have become if BL had the money to develop it

Like the current Beetle the BMW Mini is more about looks, style and fashion than anything to do with the concepts of the originals and their personalities have really been lost. I'd take the original classics.

The original mini was an absolute riot - the ONLY car that has ever caused me to laugh like a drain just 'cos

Doing 90 on a hill in a Mini City 1000e and having EVERYTHING vibrating like buggery is a memory I will always cherish. Me and my wife were having hysterics watching the speedo crawling up

The first time you take a bend in a mini and wonder where the railway lines are

Sleeping policeman on the approach to big roundabouts - you have to put one hand on the roof to stop yourself bouncing out the chair

You just don't get that in the new one.... loved that mini.... :-D

the BMW version isn't really mini.
the idea behind the original mini is a small economical car.
what people like about the original is the small light car is relitivley quick and handles well compaired with the rest in its class, but most of all its cheap.

bmw doesn't fufill this.

however people may like what BMW made, but its not to be compaired to the original.
