Compared to 20 or 30 years ago...yes, gay/lesbian is becoming more acceptable...That does NOT mean that it HAS become 100 percent acceptable. It won't reach that yet.

As far as why, well...you have various individuals proclaiming their sexuality to the world. Gays/lesbians entering in Civil Unions...

Things still have a very long way to go before being gay/lesbian is equal to anyone else...but it has made progress compared to the past

It is definitely more acceptable today than in the past, but whether or not it is right is a another question. I think it is because there are more gay/lesbians out there today then in the past.

Depends on how past.... For the ancient Greek's it's still less today than it was then. Many of the ancient cultures were much more open as a society than people still are today. Today there are still places where it is an executibual offense!

But I think here in America, it's probably more accepted today that it ever has been :)

Damn! Someone beat me with the same answer :( Nevermind ;)

Much more socially acceptable at least in most cultures. In the heyday of the Roman Empire, homosexuality was quite common and accepted, bisexuality was even more common. But in the industrial age to now, homosexuality and bisexuality has been either hidden away or subject to violent acts. Today seeing two guys together, obviously gay is not unusual, and considered part of society at least in western europe and the US/Canada. Not sure about other regions of the globe other than muslim areas where it supposedly is prohibited.
As to why, I think exposure to anything not the "norm" over and over again leads to acceptance of it or at least some greater tolerance. TV and movies have certainly helped with that and the declining power and influence of christianity is the biggest reason.

It depends on what you define as the past. If you are talking the recent past like early to mid twentieth century than yes, due to a more liberal media and pushes towards civil rights it has begun to become more accepted.

If you are talking ancient past, as in the Roman and Greek empires than no, we are still not as accepted now as we were then. They had no qualms about it and it was seen for what it was, a perfectly healthy part of life for some people.

Yes and no. Yes in a sense that people are more okay with you 2 women being together. For some reason still, alot of people are not comfortable with 2 men being together. It is a sad statement, but true. People see me and my girlfriend and they love it. But to see my male gay friends and their boyfriends is frowned on.

YES

for liberals and people who think they are progressive - definitely YES

for those who still don't it's right or aren't comfortable with it.. they are afraid to admit it because of social pressure to be 'progressive'

So I feel society is pressuring us to view homosexuality as socially acceptable
