I am conservative in some of my views, esepecially when it comes to the economy. But I don't understand why that would equate into also supporting a government that has some questionable attitudes to human rights and seems to want to bring religion into public policies.

I accept evolution and support stem cell research for example.

I don't understand the connection between being fiscally conservative equates into wanting a minister for a president or wanting something like sexual discrimination not considered wrong.

Like many human beings, your ideas and views can't be shoehorned into a single political party. In other words, you actually think for yourself, rather than just regurgitate the dogma of one party's leadership.

Today, the Republican party focuses much more on social conservatism, than fiscal conservatism. Their horrible spending and fiscal policies prove that. They have also distanced themselves from Goldwater Republicanism, and embrace more government-enforced morality. Social morales are now the backbone of the party, all else is secondary.

The Democrats don't fit your points of view either, they are still a tax and spend party, with a left-wing political philosophy still mired in the 1970's.

A lot of conservatives today, focus a great deal on the bible, and bringing the US government in line with what their churches want. This tends to diminish focus on other conservative ideals like limited government interference, controlled spending, civil rights and freedom. Indeed, the fact most conservatives consider the ideas of strong civil liberties a "liberal" issue these days, shows just how far the Republicans have strayed from their conservative roots of the 50's and 60's.

My recommendation is not to worry why "conservatives" vote the way they do. Certainly don't worry whether you fit some sort of shoehorn label either. Simply think for yourself, as you are doing, and then search for candidates that comes as close to your beliefs by reviewing their voting record.

There are those who are socially liberal and fiscally conservative on both sides of the aisle. Take a deeper look at the individual candidates.

The truth is the Republican party has the mindset that they can't win without the evengelical crowd and so the party leaders cater to the Christian Conservatives who feel it is there obligation to instill there sense of morals on all Americans.

Many traditional Republican values have been lost. And social conservatism doesn't really have much to do with fiscal conservatism. At some point the evangelical community aligned itself with the Republican party and twisted the Republican agenda into a religious agenda. No party that believes in small government would be for government bans on gay marriage and abortion.

They vote that way because, it used to be that the Repulblican party was one that stood for limited government and personal freedom and choice along with personal responsibility.

But it has been usurpted by all of the sothern dixiecrats and neocons that left the dem party decades ago. With each election, they pick up seat int he south and lose them in the northeast and west. The result is a party that is now a socially conervative party with little small government/freedom roots to it.

I myself am really disgruntled that my voting options are now to vote for a big, intrusive, powerful Republican government, or a big, powerful, intrusive, Democrat government. Its just a question of, do you want Social conservatives controling your life, or Socialists controling your life?

So i think of all of us is purely plenty extra interactive with one yet another so they care extra approximately one yet another this is why human beings vote as democrats. Repubicans are plenty extra possibly to decide others & no longer have information for why human beings behave the way they do & are against feeling this is our inner coaching device so they only flow alongside with Fox information or churchs or others. Dems think of for themselves.

Conservatives tend to be Republicans.

That being said. You can please some of the people some of the time but not all the people all the time

I to do not necessarily agree with everthing the current presidency is promoting. But the alternative is far more scarier than the Republicans.

You sound like a Libertarian. You're amongst good company, myself included. Fiscal Conservative, Social Liberal basically.

The problem is that there are only two major parties. It shocks me as well that people seem to think that if you believe on Republican/Democrat thing, you HAVE to believe all the rest. Think for yourselves people!

It doesn't translate into any of those things. Conservative values closer match the Republican party... that's all.

None of the candidates are perfect or truly Republican OR conservative.... It is just that Republicans are CLOSER to conservative values than a Democrat...

Conservatives vote republican because the Republicans cater to them. Liberals vote democrat because Democrats cater to them. I think most people vote for the politicians who are telling them what they want to hear.
