Just like most unions out there they are there for the bad employees. They protect the small percentage of players they represent at the expense of the overwhelming majority that have no problems. Unions have served their pursose, all they do now is let bad employees keep their jobs.
Also they will never want to give any ground on anything. All this is is them throwing it on a table and seeing whose d!ck is bigger.

From the players point of view there is nothing to be gained from testing and only problems can arise. If there is no benefit for the players the Union will oppose it. From everything I am hearing there were about 80 players that had a positive test and a warning in 2003 and that number dropped to just 3 players in 2007. The testing is working and has the players concerned but the Players Union will be the biggest road block to a drug free sport.

The biggest problem is that there is no trust between the Players and Ownership; the players do not trust the ownership to be forthright about the results and will only submit to something that is run by an organization other than the MLB head offices, the MLB head offices want complete control of the testing and do not want to give any of that control up. That is where the problem lies, theyhave both screwed each other over so many times that they do not trust each other.

the real reason is the baseball union is the BEST, Strongest union in America period.
They never allow any other union, control what they do, I guess maybe until now. Now that they actually have the bad spotlight on them they will make a change im sure

In case you didn't realize it yet, its becuase there IS something to hide!
Also, the player's union does not care whether there are steroids in baseball or not. The union does not represent baseball, the fans, the owners, etc.--they represent the players interest only, and for player's who are using steriods, it is not in the player's interest to get tested regularly.

They consider it an invasion of privacy. Without due cause they feel it is illegal to require someone to submit to a drug test.
I'm no lawyer, but I wonder if this would stand up in a court of law. Many, many companies perform drug tests on employees and potential employees and seem to get away with it. It's a thorny legal issue.

The job of any union is to fight for its members innocent or not. It is clear that many of their members are not innocent.
