The Chota Nagpur Plateau is in eastern India and covers much of Jharkhand state as well as parts of Orissa, Bihar, and Chhattisgarh. It contains scenic waterfalls such as Lodh Falls. The plateau is made up of ancient Precambrian rocks and coal deposits. It consists of three smaller plateaus, the Ranchi, Hazaribagh, and Kodarma plateaus. The Ranchi plateau is the largest. The total area of Chota Nagpur Plateau is approximately 25,000 sq miles.

Much of the plateau is forested with Sal trees. The plateau is one of the few remaining refuges left in India for tigers and Asian Elephants.

Chota Nagpur Plateau is one of India's tourist attractions because of its remote area and scenic appeal.
