What crafts do Moroccan women enjoy? What about women under age 40 and over age 40, is there much of a difference? What type of crafting supplies are hard to come by in Morocco? What type of things do we have here that you think they might like there if anything? Anything you can add to any of this would be helpful. Thanks and moubrouk leid!

Terry, your last line...I know...I was asking more for those who do it as a luxury. Your mil sounds like mine and a bit like me. I'd love for to meet her and have her show me stuff since she worked for the government and all. I'd love to compile pics and stuff and make a little book...I've been thinking about it..but it is one of many thoughts.

Sarah, I wasn't even thinking of business but that is a cute idea. There is a yarn store in another town over here I want to go check out...I guess the do the same type of thing, knit, crochet, and chat. LOL (oh and they aren't all old ladies either from the pictures I saw) LOL

I only know one young woman who crafts for fun here. She seems to prefer clay work. She uses a really fine clay to make very delicate flowers that she mounts on frames or decorative bases to display on a table. She also does this really neat metal sheet work. She sort of molds things into the metal whether shapes or words (she does a really neat Allah swt one).
Other crafts I see people do is embroidery or cross stitch for jilaba or for tablecloths but as you and Terry both mentioned I think most of those people do it to sell the stuff not for fun.
Forgive the wording of this I just don't know how else to say it. I know a lot of women here who are quite wealthy and they could afford to buy any supplies they wanted. They just don't seem to have an interest in any of that. They seem to prefer sitting together, cooking and chatting. :)
And for my opinion, lol. I think an all womens cafe that had nice sewing machines that a person can rent time with , craft supplies, tea, coffee, couches and classes teaching crafts that aren't already taught here etc could be a nice little business if in the right neighborhood.

My husband's mother makes all sorts of things- pillows covers, clothes, rugs, flowers from ingredients I don't know the name of, djellabas, baby clothes, table covers... you name it, that woman can do it. She actually taught traditional Moroccan crafts to women as a job working for the government. She is very talented.

I am not sure what kinds of supplies are hard to come by, I never really looked for them. I do know some shops in Rabat sell beads for making jewelry and silk of course for clothing and upholstery. I think for most Moroccans, crafting is not a luxury or hobby, but a necessity
