I can't say that they should have won. I think things would be very different in this country if they had, and maybe that would be a good thing.

Who thinks anything was "civil" about the war?
I think no one should be enslaved to anyone.
I also think President Lincoln was right in wanting to set everyone free. HOWEVER, what is the good of setting someone free FROM something unless you set them FREE to something better? The slaves were freed to a world they did not have the skills to succeed in. Many were far more afraid of freedom than they were of the masters who owned them and cared for their needs. America is still battling the remnants of the results of the war. Some are still blaming the citizens of today for what their ancestors did long before any of us were born. It's strange though that I've not found too many who want to be taken back to their homeland from which they were captured and brought to America.
So, do I think the south should have won? What I really think is that the whole thing was mishandled. It never should have taken the lives of so many to accomplish what needed to be done. If it had been done differently, it could have been done without bloodshed and thus prevented both sides still having animosity toward the other after all these years.

It would be a very Different America, or two Americas, lol!
But this question is going to bring out all the self hating white people and all the racists black people, and the liberal yanks, can’t wait to see these answers
and yes.
popsequal-
I meant because they "racists black people", would go on and on about how they are happy they lost, and how the war was about just slavery! When slavery would/could have end much more peaceful and the blacks would probably got a much better "end of the stick" at the time. War is war; rational thought usually works much better. I know im sitting in Iraq right now, which could have been planed a lot better, and so many people would not have to deal with the consequences’ when we pull out.

GaBoy,
Why would this bring out 'racist black people'. Why would black people wanted the South to win? That's like releasing an inmate from jail after 20 years and watching him climb back over the wall through barbwire to get back in. Doesn't make much sense.
I've seen some decent posts from you, but you've pretty much exposed yourself on this one.

the South had better leadership.
the North had more men, better access to supplies, weapons and technology, and could pretty much afford to wait the South out.
which it did.
