i heard all kinds of 'rumours' surrounding how they make sure ppl walk in with $$$ and leave broke as sin. No really i have, i heard they use every sly cunning trick in the book to ensure you stay in a casino long enough as to lose more than you can win.

From the a/c settings to the free watered down drinks - ive been told its a place designed to get rich off of gamblers. Never been to Las Vegas, probably be a great laugh im sure.
For those of you who have been there or go there regularly, whats your take on what i've heard ? load of old rubbish or some truth in what i've heard ?

get back to me on this one folks.

maybe...just maybe...i could be right regarding the drinks being watered down ? think about it - lot of ppl are like 'omg wow - free drinks ! now i'll NEVER leave this place!' ... 4 hours later 'wow im ALMOST tipsy, but not quite there yet - i'll stay a little longer ! Free Drinks !'.

see they'll keep you there longer by giving you slightly weaker drinks, not slightly stronger - but if you've been there and tried the booze and it got you drunk fast - fair enough i guess.

They don't water down the drinks. They don't have to do that. The purpose is not to get you drunk. That's the last thing they want. They just want to make you happy and comfortable. I have seen so many times when the cocktail waitress will cut some one off if they feel they have had too much. They are trained to do that. My brother was cut off and he wasn't drunk but she felt he had too many in a certain period of time. He wasn't angry ... actually we laughed and he actually felt good that she was looking out for him.

Even if they did water the drinks ... they are free.... I could understand if you were paying for them and they were watering them down for you to be upset. When they are free ... even if you are gambling there ... I don't see what the big deal is.

By the way ... my drinks are watered down all the time .. I only order bottled water. If you get a good cocktail waitress .. like I usually get .. she will open the bottle and put a lemon or lime slice on the bottle.

Sure they use psychology to make you play more. The clocks and the clean refreshing smell helps. Then you have someone with a cigarette or a cigar right next to you .. happens every time. The colors of the lights and the comps all figure in to the equation. Just make their guests comfortable and happy is what they are trying to do.

Why should they want to water down the drinks? The more loaded you get, the more that you'll gamble. If you have a doubt then order a beer in a can.

I can't say that I've noticed any weak drinks. If I'm gambling, then usually I'll either drink coffee, or soft drinks, or tea. You need to keep your wits about you and make the right decisions. It is money after all.

Everyone should go to Vegas at least once in their lives. It is a Disneyland for adults. Even if you don't gamble, you can see the sights and just tour the different hotels and casinos.

It is really worth the trip.

No, the casino's have plenty of alcohol to go around they do not water it down. They get good prices on the alcohol due to the volume. They can sell it for cheaper.

The tricks the casinos due is they do not put clocks in the hotel/casino. No windows or outside light on the casino floors unless you are by the door. And usually the door is glass and tented and also set in a bit. They want the guests to forget about time. If you don't see it's light or dark outside you will stay inside longer. Also, some new casinos pump lemongrass, citruis or lavendar threw the vents. These sents calm people down.

Yep! you bet! every detail is designed to keep you (and your money) there until its all theirs.
Sure, they short pore the free drinks. But , if you're one of the luckys to get a few bucks ahead those drinks will get a little stiffer.
Vegas is all about forgetting the value of a dollar, having fun, and just letting your hair down.
Anyone thinking "scared of losing money" need not go to any gambling venue. It's not for you then.

Rubbish. Going into a casino with that sort of information will guarantee you win the "Most gullible" award.
I worked in 3 casinos and I can attest to the fact that they don't need tactics like that. If you choose to gamble the odds are always in the house favor, the drinks are not watered down and who twisted your arm to gamble more than you could afford to lose?
*geesh*

80+ % of my cokes (which is all I drink...religiously) have been grossly watered down. Most of them contained more ice than coke too. As for alcoholic drinks...I think if it's bottled and not in a glass, chances are it's NOT watered down.

Casinos do use tactics. Such as the only using "harmonic" musical notes for the machines...yes, even the air-conditioning is designed to make you as comfortable as possible...not having any CLOCKS on the casino floor etc.

It's Subliminal Marketing. They do not announce this to you or their employees but if you are in marketing, you are probably privvy of these methods.

I could care less. I pretty much never drink. Besides, getting drunk while gambling is the last thing you wanna do, the last time and place you wanna do it at.

Erica's right. It's in their best interest to have you get very drunk very fast. That's why drinks are free while you're gambling.

Actually I felt like they did the opposite. They want you to get a little tipsy so you lose more money.

You just have to be smart.
