Ditto Joe T.
The notion that immigrants are coming here for welfare checks is laughable.
My grandparents (like many of your grandparents) came to the U.S. without papers through Ellis Island. Two generations later, all the grandkids have college degrees (with the notable exception of one cousin who is a ballerina). My grandparents never mastered English, but one of their grandchildren is now an English professor. And I write for a living. Illiteracy and trouble mastering the language have no bearing on innate intelligence. Or human worth, for that matter.
Anyone who thinks they're better than an illiterate immigrant is a jerk.
Honestly, the baiting and the shallow judgments of immigrants is pathetic. Did no one have parents who taught you compassion, or is this another case of the false bravado of the internet bringing out the ugly side of people that they normally hide?

I have a really stupid question. Why are we not checking IDs at these classes and deporting the illegals attending? Can someone help me out? Am I just too damn old to get it? Same thing goes for hospitals and everywhere else they go to get assistance for anything.

Yep. By the way as your source says this has been going on since Viet-nam. I guess its going to be a slow change. By the way who taught you? Where are your decendants from?

My grandfather came from italy. he was basically illiterate. He didn't not speak English. He worked hard and opened a small hardware store and made an okay living. HIS son became a doctor and HIS son a doctor as well.
All you are doing by posting this is race-baiting, and you can see the fruits of your labor in this topic, as the racists are crawling out from under the refrigerator and hitting my post with thumbs downs.
No matter, I know the American dream because I am a product of poor dumb illiterate immigrants and I'm doing just fine thank you very much.

That doesn't sound like the future, but like the present. What's wrong with helping people improve themselves? You Cons are more anti-social than I thought.

I think if they want to become us citizens, they need to read and write English before even coming over here. Why should OUR tax dollars pay for them.
This subject really gets me heated!
I'm Native American, so my ancestors Are from here. Does/Did that change anything? I think not.

It's funny how all the people complain about, "Oh, they're illegal, get them out of here......".....how about when your ancestors came here illegally? Were they booted from the country? No. Don't worry, your taxes HAVE to go up from the deficit Bush put us in so it's inevitable. Leave the people you never see anyways alone.

Think there is bunch of them, illegals, that need toilet training as well, show them what toilet paper is used for, especially the ones we have working in the meat packing industry. (COOK YOUR MEAT WELL DONE)

i am sure they will learn how to sign those welfare checks pretty quick!
and I agree with Cindy!!
George Walker Texas Ranger Bush - that argument has nothing to do with what we are talking about... we are talking about the fact that they can't read/write English...
Touching story Lanani...
