When I delete them to the recycle bin and empty it, they come back the next time the computer is turned on. I have Windows Vista home Premium. How can I permanently delete them?

Hi. The edb.chk is a checkpoint file, any file that ends in .log is a log file. I would leave them alone. http://mcpmag.com/features/article.asp?EditorialsID=263

If you actually deleted the items, open your recycle bin and see if the icons are in there. If they are, you can restore them.
