When you download something you say "stop my internet from working". If you are using dialup in todays world of technology the majority of severs around the world will download at speeds of 1mega. And dialup is not able to handle the download speed and your download will time out.

If you can afford, you really need ADSL, and this will not happen. (You don't say if you are using dialup or ADSL).

Best I can tell you, being I am not quite clear as to what you mean that your IE, does not work while a download is taking place. The same answer would apply if you have dialup. The data is greater then your bandwidth allowed by dialup service from you IP.

Some P2P programmes hog resources to a point where your browser will time out trying to load a page.

Depending on the P2P programme you may be able to adjust the bandwidth or other options to avoid this situation.

Or, when you are wanting to otherwise use the net, stop the P2P programme temporarily and reset your router. Then you can use the net freely. Afterwards, restart the P2P programme.

Or you may wish to just use your P2P programme at times when you never use the net (like when you are asleep)
