I usually go all out to 'pie in the face' if that's what it takes. Luckily most of the time all is needed is a good ear and shoulder to lean on.
Always carry dead skunks and other road kill - helps bring smiles. Talking about quantum physics helps too.

If someone is feeling down, they want a friend who will listen to them, and perhaps give them a hug. They don't necessarily want to smile again - they just want to be understood. So don't try to cheer the person up - just let them know you're there for them and care for them anyway.

Smiles are infectious. When one of my friends are feeling down I smile a lot when I talk to them. Laughter is a great way to perk them up as well. If they need to talk I smile and listen. If they need a quick fix and don't feel like talking I try to make them laugh a lot.

I tell them I am there for them and If there is something I can do to make them feel better let me know. Give them a big hug and say lets make a ice cream or chocolate run.

Write them a letter, read their cards for them, take them to dinner, whatever it takes.
Sometimes, though, nothing you say or do can help; sometimes life just has to work itself out. The important thing is to be there for them, until life does work itself out.

I don't force the issue. I just hang around to let them know that I am there for them if they want to talk.

anything that u think would make them laugh. you dont ask somebody what would make you happy right now, when they r down. just come up with an idea, and do it. do you. and have fun.

in person, i just pat them on the back and don't say anything, if it is a friend. i just somehow let them know that i am there. usually that is enough for a well balanced person.
