Here is the answer that MOST of us on Answers and most of America now advises:
DO NOT re-install Norton anti-virus when it expires.
Norton is a fine company with many great utility products
BUT
The anti-virus will not work with Vista which will be the coming PS for the next 10 years (after they get it to be compatible and get the bugs out of it) and many PC users complain bitterly about Norton's failure to detect certain malwarte ( I do not cliam this but other do).
And Norton is difficult to contact when you need them (almost impossible) I found this to be true.
And there are excellent FREE anti-virus programs that work great, update every few days for you automatically and save you having to RENEW them at $50 every year.
My favorite is a British one: AVIRA (30 million users)
You can get it free at:
www.free-AV.com
but in the U.S. the favorite is one they call AVG, which you can get at www.grisoft.com
both of the above will do a great job.
PC Magazines still say the KAPERSKY is a little better.
You can google that one and decide for yourself.
By the way, you must have noticed that poflam with 11,000 points, a level 7 member has written you and told you how hard it will be for you to uninstall NORTON but he didn't give you the program to do it:
Here it is :
www.softpedia.com/get/tweak/uninstallers/norton-removal-tool.shtml
Much good luck and a wonderful Christmas to you and yours.

Don't renew Nortons as it is one of the very worse antivirus program in the world. Pure junk that is a hugh resource hog, fails to find viruses, and when one is found does not know how to remove.
Save your money as there are plenty of free excellent ones like Avast free for home personal use. As an excellent background scanner and update on the hour.

If you want to purchase, I pay a one time fee for life of $29.99 and I get daily auto updates and all new versions for life. As a background scanner that is state of the art technology. http://www.filseclab.com

Doubleditto drumcatblue! Dump Norton and get something else!
(Warning: you will have a hard time dredging Norton out of your system: that's part of its misery. After un-installing it, be prepared to go fetch an un-install utility from Norton themselves, then you may need actually to go to My Computer and look around, as I did, and find folders labeled Norton or Symantec and systematically blast them off the system!)
There are plenty other anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-rootkit, firewall, anti-malware, etc. programs out there. AVG, Kapersky, Comodo, Lavasoft Adaware, Spybot, ClamWin are just a very few. Get'em!

Join the (not so) dark side and protect your computer using all free and original software :P
Antivirus: Avast or AVG
Antispyware: Spywareblaster + Spybot Search and Destroy
Anti- Adware: Ad-Aware SE Personal
if you aren't using a router with a hardware firewall than get comodo firewall or zonealarm
It all depends - is your paid security software worth it so far in your opinion? Is your computer drained of memory using this software and hence a tad slow?
All this and more could be downloaded free here:
http://www.download.com/?tag=hd_ts
p.s: I use Airsnare to monitor my wireless network at home too :P

personally, I don't care for Norton----If I were you, I'd let it run out and then purchase a different anti-virus next time. I suggest buying trend micro antivrus and Spy Sweeper for spyware
