I just finished my first semester at a community college and am planning to take one more semester, then transfer out of state in the fall. I will enter as a sophomore. Can this be done, or do I have to stay at the community college for 2 years? Upon applying I will have completed 14 units and working on 12 units.

You can transfer whenever you want. What's going to be a question is whether they will take your credits and how they will apply them (like, if they'll be taken to go toward whatever firled of study you choose). Some Universities are picky and you may wind up being a freshman if you transfer or they may apply a lot of your credits as free electives and then you'll have to take all your core classes at thir school. It depends on that particular school's req's, but you don't have to complete 2 years at CC to transfer.

This depends on how the 4 year university accepts your credits. The university may not take all of your credits, which means you'll have to retake the 4 year university's equivalent to the classes you've already taken.

In the US, if you receive an AA, the university has to take those credits and apply them accordingly. There may be one or two major-specific lower level electives that you'll still have to take, but this guarantees that you keep the credit for the work you've done.

I would strongly urge you to speak with a guidance counselor at the 4 year university to see how your classes would transfer. You should then base your decision on when to transfer on what your counselor says.

uhhh, transfering from a 2 year college after the 2 years is the safest way because an AAOT is an agreement with the universities that they will accept all your credits..on the other hand if you transfer out of the community college on your first year and just transfering classes, some of your credits have a tendency not to be recognized and accepted, so they might downgrade you to a freshman again...unless you tested high then hopefully your classes should count...but good luck with the admission process..

depending on the college, you you should be able to, but it might be hard to get in with out a transfer degree or and AA. Because you would like to attend a school out of state, you must see if your credits will transfer, otherwise it will be like just applying straight out of high school. I would find out the transfer requirements for the college of choice and make sure to complete as many as you can before.

Good Luck!

You should easily be able to transfer to a 4 year. Sometimes when transferring the 4 year schools have minimum credit requirements if someone is transferring in, and it does not mean that you have to have an associates degree to transfer in.

Yes it can be done as long as the 4 year accepts all of your credits.
